rod's determination

Rod: "What are we doing tomorrow night?"
Me: "Nothing." (Our nights are very free since all the season finales wrapped up. I know......that's a little sad.)
Rod: "Well, REI is having a class and I thought it might be fun if we went."
Me: "On what?"
Rod: "Backpacking."
Me: (silence....then confusion because my mind doesn't normally process those words) "Backpacking????????"
Rod: "I thought you'd like to go. It sounds really cool. They teach you how to pack your backpack when you camp and stuff like that...."
Me: (uncontrollable laughter)
Rod won't give up on me and I love him for that. He is the ultimate man's man who enjoys outdoor adventures. This is a quality that I find incredibly attractive, but it is not a quality that I naturally possess. I think he secretly wants to live like the Swiss Family Robinson, but he knows that I could never do that. I draw the line at having to dig a hole outside in order to go to the bathroom. Plus, my hair looks so much better if I am able to use a blowdryer.
Once he threw out the idea of renting an RV to go on vacation. I was all up for it until I found out we actually had to sleep in it at night. I thought the RV would just be really comfortable transportation and we would be sleeping in a nice hotel at night. Turns out people sleep in RVs, too.
But now that we live in Colorado, I almost feel like I owe it to him to try camping. He keeps telling me how great it would be. Plus, I read a study that said families that camped together, stayed together.......or something along that line. So, maybe I'll give it a try. After all, two adults and four kids sleeping in a tent the size of our bathroom can't be that bad, can it???

By the way...the licking of the pizza parlor floor...UGH! Made me count my blessings!
P.P.S. Since everyone is talking about their camping experience...I went once with a group of girls on a random weekend...we only caught a crappe, I caught myself on fire, and we got stuck in the middle of a tornado...
You are too funny! When Craig first decided that we were going camping it was in a tent. We were rained out and on our way back to Watertown looking like drowned rats! I vowed that I would never go camping again. Since then, we have owned two campers and it isn't so bad. We have air conditioning (a must in July and August!) and running water. Although we were at the river camping over Memorial Day and had to go to the shower house at midnight because we were in a tornado warning! I asked Craig why we liked camping! Hang in there! Camping is what you make of it!
I used to be a camper, that is until I got married. No longer needing to pretend to be out-doorsey and up for everything, I've made my preferences known. The cabin is about as rustic as I care to partake :-)
